A bad relay or blown fuse will also give a fuel pressure drop due to the lack of power supplied to the fuel pump. Equally important in diagnosing a fuel pressure drop is the fuel filter. This means routine maintenance on the fuel filter is required so that it does not add to the causes of a pressure drop in the system. If it has been determined that the fuel pump is the source of the pressure loss, then the best course of action would be to replace it. While the problem can be partially overcome for a short period of time by repairs such as cleaning the fuel lines or replacing the fuel filter, the root cause of the pump’s capacity to maintain pressure will need to be addressed to prevent further problems. Regular diagnostics can avoid major failures, with earlier identification equating to lesser cost for repair.

For some cars, like the Toyota Camry, the Fuel Pump‘s life is around 100,000 miles, and not addressing early symptoms of pressure drop may lead to more significant problems such as engine misfires or stalling.
